Valentines day cards

So here is a view of some of the silly/ bad puns valentine day cards that i'm sending out to a select few. I created these since I was off work today due to a snow day! Hopefully I'll have time to make more for others!

Happy Valentine's Day 2014, ATL!

Cincinnati and Mapplethorpe

I just came back from a lovely few days at the beach with my family: mom, dad, Becky, Chalmer and the girls. Hilton Head is not the greatest for waves but there are a ton of sand dollars there and I even learned how to pick them up with me feet (that's a big feat (haha) for me considering I hate putting me feet on the ocean floor)! Beach party consisted of lots of tickling and giggling and crying and wining.

So...I mentioned I was reading Just Kids to my parents and my dad asked me what it was about. When I mentioned Robert Mapplethorpe his eyes lit up and he said he saw his work, in Cincinnati! He said it was a big controversy when Mapplethorpe's work came to town and that people even rioted. My mom said that little conservative Cincinnati just couldn't handle the thought of seeing naked photos of people.

This cartoon was in the Cincinnati Enquirer in 1990:

Then I did some research and found just how much of a controversy Mapplethorpe's The Perfect Moment was in Cincinnati. The people actually attempted to sue the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) and it's director due to obscenity. The jury found the CAC and the director NOT GUILTY!

I think it's really funny that my dad mostly remembers photos of flowers.

Oh Cincinnati. You never change.

By the way, I'm also reading The Hunger Games Trilogy, ha ha.

New York

I love it when things come together. Right now it's New York. No I'm not visiting any time soon (although both Lauren and Ken have invited me) but just thinking about the city and the people it has affected. How did it all came about you may wonder? Well...

Right now I am reading a book called Just Kids by Patti Smith. It was recommended to me by my friend Morgan and Leeza (both amazing women).

I'm only a little bit into it but it's lovely. I want to talk to Morgan about some photography ideas...

My beloved neighbor and friend Ken is moving to New York for an internship soon meaning I'll be all alone in the back of my building. A few months ago he introduced this book to me as one of his favorites to read while he was living in New York:

letters and paintings

Still painting when I can although things are busy busy busy here! My final classes for summer are this week and then final exams. My friend Sue will be in town all the way from Oregon for 2 days, lucky me! Right after exams I will visit my parent's house and see my sister and my 3 lovely lil nieces! I am so excited to give a ton of hugs!

Last weekend I saw Moonrise Kingdom. Not my favorite Wes Anderson movie but it did inspire me to paint my chair, frame it, and hang it right next to said painted chair.
See below:

Also this week my friend Tyler leaves for a European tour for 3 weeks. I wrote him 3 letters, one for each week of his journey. Each letter contains a short story, a piece of artwork, and a letter from moi! I would want someone to do something so nice for me one day. (*hint, hint)

Andre the Giant is one of the enclosed pieces of art work. Sadly I cannot give the original to Tyler since Orea is demanding the work to frame and put in her bedroom. I can't really argue with that!

Noodle Bowl 101

Last evening my friend Orea came over to give me a tutorial on Vietnamese noodle bowl cooking. Pretty yummy, a little fishy or as Orea says, "it smells like a dog's asshole." Orea made hers with beef, mine with mushrooms. Some how I didn't take a picture of the final results but here some photos of the event.

The basic ingredients to create the fishy sauce
(not shown Thai peppers for heat!)

Mushrooms marinating in fish sauce, pepper, garlic, and vegetable oil.

Cooking those marinated shrooms with onions.

Excellent: Once tasted ever wanted.

Two bowls of fresh romaine lettuce, cilantro, basil.
Add noodles, meat or mushrooms, cucumbers,
sprouts. Add fishy sauce and enjoy!
